Julie & Gian | Engaged!

Julie & Gian found us through Julie’s sister, Donna, who is a friend of mine that I adore (but rarely get to see!).  I was so excited when I got Julie’s initial email because, the second I realized she was Donna’s sister, I knew only good things were bound to happen.  And they did!  We clicked with them right away and with each email we got more and more excited about shooting this engagement session (and wedding!).

Julie & Gian chose to have their engagement session shot in Stockbridge, MA for reasons close to their hearts.  It is such a picturesque town.  We met for dinner on Saturday at a bar where the beer list was more like a beer book!  Chris was in heaven (to say the least).  Then we drove to the top of Mount Greylock and caught a beautiful sunset and afterglow.  The next morning we started off bright and early at a little coffee shop with a little coffee and crossword (because they met at a coffee shop and spent hours doing a cross-word). Then, after a little walk around town, we ended at the Norman Rockwell museum which is stunning – beautiful stone buildings, gardens, and some odd little sculptures.  We could have kept shooting all day!

The best thing about the entire weekend though was getting to know Gian & Julie.  They are so sweet and I feel so lucky they chose us to capture their wedding day.  We are beyond excited to see them again in a few weeks at their wedding!

And now, for the photos:

The Berkshires!

I have never been to the Berkshires in Massachusetts.  Chris goes frequently to bike their mountains but I’ve never had a “reason” to go.  Well, luckily one of our amazing couples (Hi Julie & Gian!) decided to shoot their engagement session in Stockbridge, MA so I had a bona fide reason to make the trip…and oh, what a beautiful area.

We planned to shoot Julie & Gian’s engagement session on Saturday afternoon but it was way too hot so we switched it to Sunday morning (which worked out perfectly).  This gave us all of Saturday to explore before we met up with Julie & Gian for dinner.  After strolling around Stockbridge, MA, we wound up at the Berkshire Botanical Gardens.  If you are ever in the area – stop in because its just beautiful.  It is well laid out, with 1 path that you walk along as the gardens change.  My favorite parts were the wishing tree (which we stopped to make a wish on), the child-size garden, and the potting shed (oh! the potting shed, what I wouldn’t give for that).  After the gardens we met up with Gian and Julie for some yummy food and then Gian took us all up to the top of a mountain where we got to see a beautiful sunset.  It was the perfect end to a relaxing day.  And now, for some photos (including a ring shot because I couldn’t resist):

The Great Race

In June we got an opportunity to shoot a multi-day sailing regatta.  You read that right – sports photography! on the water! 2 whole days of it!  To say we were excited was an understatement.  We were picturing waves crashing, boats zooming through the water, big telephoto zoom lenses, and us in the middle of it all.  We couldn’t wait- the morning of the first day we show up bright and early at 8:00 am ready to take on the day.

We were greeted with barely any wind. no waves. and lots of boats floating out at their moorings.  So, we treated it like rain on a wedding day and worked around it. Luckily (for the participants at least) we got a little lucky in the wind department for a few hours here and there.  Here are some of our favorite shots:

Four Down

We love (love) the local band Four Down.  Their genre is eclectic… to say the least.  They play everything – reggae, top 40, funk, rock….  Their shows are sort of like Pandora – but live. and better.   They play all around upstate NY (mostly in the Capital Region) and, if your interested (and you should be interested), their calendar is here.*

Anyway!  The problem with this summer is that we’ve been so busy we haven’t had time to get to a show….until a few weeks ago.  And boy the men of Four Down delivered.  It was epic. Great music, good friends, beautiful weather….and we remembered to bring our camera!

* This isn’t any sort of sponsored post…we just really love Four Down and think you might like them too!

Hello There!

Welcome! We are Chris and Lauren. As you’ve probably read elsewhere on the site, Chris started Christopher Morris Photography about 7 years ago, after photographing a friend’s wedding as a gift and getting bit by the wedding photography bug. Lauren started helping Chris with the weddings after graduating from law school, unemployed, and with a lot of time on her hands. She is now his fiancee (yey!), a partner in life and in business and we shoot every wedding together.

Lauren will be the primary blogger around these digs but Chris will probably drop in from time to time to say hi. We plan to use this blog a little differently than “regular” wedding photography blogs because…well, why not? So, you’ll see postings on here highlighting the weddings we shoot, the people we meet, the places we travel, the wedding we are attempting to plan in Western/Central New York  and pretty much any other fun stuff that happens in our lives.

And … we wouldn’t be photographers if we didn’t leave you with some photos now would we?

Here we are – Chris (left) and Lauren (right):

and our little family unit would not be complete without these two – Zeke (left) and Mara (right):
